A lot of my current work explores the horse, a horse is both wild and tame at the same time, and that is one of the most prevalent explorations in my work.
Gemstone powders make these pieces come alive. The surface is difficult to describe and does not show up in the photographs. My fascination and appreciation of precious and semiprecious gemstones, of silver and gold comes from 30 years as a metalsmith and jeweller. The moment I started to grind my own gemstones into powder to paint with, I knew that I could mesh my love for metal and gemstones, with my love for painting.
My equine art is painted in imaginative colours, with expressive brush strokes and involve shape relationships with creation of light, atmosphere, space and movement through color vibration and harmonies. I specialize in illusary surfaces, and incorporate a number of self learned techniques to establish these in my paintings.
You will find my horse paintings to be more contemporary, more modern, some even more abstract... the thing is that when you are near them, they feel like horses even more than if they were realistically painted.
If you love horses, I offer you a way to bring the spirit of the horse back into your daily life through art.
